Dawn Viens: Missing woman’s husband jumps off cliff

UPDATE 2013 – David Viens told the Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives that he put Dawn’s body in a 55-gallon drum filled with water and left her to simmer for four days in his restaurant near Long Beach, the Thyme Contemporary Café. During his trial he later recanted and stated he did not do that, but he had tied her up so he could have some peace and when he came back found hours later she was dead.  David had his daughter Jacqueline, who ended up testifying against him, to send a text message from Dawn’s phone saying she was in Florida.  David was sentenced to 15-years to life for the murder of Dawn.  Dawn’s remains are still missing.

The husband of a missing Lomita, Calif. woman jumped off a cliff Wednesday morning.

David Viens, 47, is in critical condition after he jumped off an 80-foot cliff on the 31500 block of Palos Verdes Drive West in Rancho Palos Verdes.

Viens is a person of interest in the disappearance of his wife, Dawn, who has been missing since October 18, 2009.

Dawn and David Viens owned the Thyme Contemporary Cafe in Lomita, California for 15 years. Dawn was the hostess at the restaurant before she disappeared.

Just days after Dawn’s disappearance, David moved in a girlfriend, Kathy into the home that Dawn and he shared. David said that he had ordered Dawn to leave because she refused to go into drug rehabilitation. Kathy also began to work at the restaurant taking over Dawn’s job.
