“(They) simply made a wrong turn and subsequently had some mechanical issues with their car,” Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman said. “They are safely back home.”


Police are searching for Opal McCannon, 78, and Phyllis Rogers, 72, who have gone missing.

They were on a road trip from Athens, Georgia to Toombs County,  Georgia and they had disappeared enroute.

They never arrived at their destination and no one has heard from them.  They were last seen at the 2800 block of Barnett Shoals Road in Athens on Tuesday morning.

Please keep a lookout for their 2008 red Kia Optima LX with Georgia tags 981ZMK.
