Nathan Beck: Courage of volunteers

Nathan Beck

Update:  Authorities have confirmed that the body of Nathan Beck has been recovered from the Broad River on Friday.

My condolences to his friends and family.

Sadly, Nathan Beck was swept away a week ago Sunday, in the Broad River, but volunteers refuse to give up searching for him.

Nathan was with a group of friends who were crossing the river where it meets Sandy Run Creek in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. They lost their footing and the waters swept them about 300 yards downstream. Nathan’s friends made it to land, but Nathan didn’t and authorities and volunteers, and family and friends have been looking for his since.

“The people who are going to be here are going to be here until we get him out of the water,” said volunteer Jeff Hammitt. “We know he [Nathan’s father] isn’t leaving until he finds his son and we’re going to be here with him.”

The official search is off, but volunteers and family are not stopping their search till Nathan is found.  Volunteers plan to be at the river every day starting at 8 a.m. to continue the search.

The volunteers are asking for help. They’re in need of boats and specialized equipment. So, if you live in the area, please volunteer if you can.
