Laura Ackerson: Dismembered body found in Texas

Amanda Smith and Grant Ruffin Hayes III were both found guilty for murdering Laura Ackerson. Hayes is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder.  Prosecutors said the couple killed Ackerson at their Raleigh apartment during a long-running custody dispute over Grant’s two oldest children.


Police have arrested two suspects in the death of Laura Ackerson and charged with murder.  Grant Ruffin Hayes, 32, and his wife, 39-year-old Amanda Perry Hayes, who I told you about last Wednesday.  Click here to read more about him.

More information has come out that Grant and Amanda rented a u-haul and purchased ice and ice chests and that the police found a machete in an out building they have confiscated.


Police believe that they have found the remains of Laura Ackerson.  The missing mother from Kinston, North Carolina remains were found in Texas.

Laura was last seen on July 13th in Wilson, North Carolina, by a business associate.
Grant Haze, the father of Laura’s two children, and a singer and songwriter, said that Laura was suppose to meet him in Wilson to drop of the children, but she never showed up.

Chief Deputy Craig Brady said that Raleigh police detectives traveled to Texas to find Laura.  Her remains were found in the 4300 block of Skinner in Oyster Creek around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.  Authorities believe that Laura was killed in North Carolina and taken to Texas where her remains were dismembered.

A suspect has been detained.

The family is waiting for positive identification of the body.
