Janet Nene Sorenson: Missing from Salinas, California

 Update:
The body of Janet Sorenson was discovered in San Benito County near Highway 129, according to the Salinas Police Department.  Authorities received a call that a deceased person was found on their property.

The Salinas Police Department on Dec. 15 arrested her son – 29-year-old Christopher Sorenson – as the suspect in the murder case.

Janet “Nene” Sorenson, 71, is missing and police believe they are searching for a body.  Nene was last seen at home on the 1600 block of Atherton Way in Salinas, California on Tuesday and when her friends had not heard from her for several days, they called the police for a welfare check.  The police found nothing out of the ordinary at her home and Nene was not there.

Nene’s 2000 Mazda MPV minivan was also not there.  Her son, Christopher Sorenson, 29, was seen leaving the house in the van on December 9th.  Christopher was known to live with his mother on and off.

Authorities located the van with Christopher Sorenson driving on Friday.  It was parked by Jack’s Park in Monterey with Christopher sleeping in the backseat.

Christopher was taken to the police department for questioning and later booked on homicide charges.

Authorities say they are now looking for Nene’s body, as they believe she is dead and likely murdered by her son, Christopher.

If you have any information on the case or saw Nene and her son together over the past week, please call the Salinas Police Department at 831-758-7226.
