Noel Shankle: Missing man crossed into Mexico says police

UPDATE:  8/22/14 – Noel is still missing.  Authorities believe he did cross into Mexico.  His mother put up a Facebook page.

Noel Shankle, 28, a father of a 4-year-old girl, who lives in Carrollton, Texas has been missing since February 3.  He was planning to have some dental work done in Mexico and would return on February 5.

Natalie Shankle, Noel’s sister said Noel landed at Valley International Airport around 6:00 p.m. and rented a 2011 silver Altima about 90 minutes later.  He called twice that evening, but the family has not heard from him since.

Authorities said that Noel crossed into Matamoros around 11:59 p.m. on February 3.

Noel’s family didn’t think he would cross over the border so late at night, and they wondered if he was coerced.

“It’s hard not to speculate, but I’m wondering how secure those checkpoints are if someone was hidden in the car.  I know my bother and he would not have gone that time of night in a 2011 vehicle unless he was forced,” said Natalie.

Noel is 6′ tall and weighs 240 pounds.

If Noel is not located by the end of the weekend, Nelly and her husband, Stan, say they will travel to the border to start searching for themselves.

Note from Natalie Shankle:

“My brother Noel Shankle flew into Harlingen Friday, and we haven’t heard from him since.
He rented a car from Hertz in Harlingen that was supposed to be returned Sunday, and it was never turned in, this isn’t like him!
He always calls and checks in daily when he travels.
My parents have already filed a missing persons report!
I need my brother back home safely.
He is a loving father, son, friend and brother.
I can send pictures.
We are begging for any coverage to get the word out.
We live in Dallas County so we feel so helpless.
We are so desperate for any tips or leads that will help bring my brother home.
We’ve already contacted the police station in Harlingen and Brownsville and have tried going through the appropriate channels but time is so precious right now, and it doesn’t seem like anyone cares.
I am in tears and trying to maintain my strong faith and conviction through these trying times, but I can’t help but feel hopeless.
I don’t feel like everything is being done that can be done.
And I know that stuff like this happens all the time, but please don’t treat him like a number!
All I’m asking is you put it on the news to get the word out! Please please please please please, I can’t even begin to describe my gratitude if you honor this request.
Please call me, I will send any pictures and information that you need.
469-500-0427
Respectfully,
Natalie Shankle”
