Michael Cocchini: Missing from Great Smoky Mountains Park

Michael Giovanni Cocchini, 23, from Nashville, Tennessee is missing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Rangers noticed that a vehicle had been sitting in the parking lot since Sunday near Newfound Gap Road, the same area where Derek Lueking, 24, from Louisville, Tennessee is believed to be missing.

Rangers began searching for Cocchini around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, but did not find anything.  On Thursday rangers will have a larger search party and more dogs for a bigger search.

Investigators have said that Cocchini was despondent.

Cocchini is 6 feet tall, 160 pounds with short black hair and a scruffy beard.  He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt.  Rangers do not believe he has any gear for hiking or camping.

If you have any information about Cocchini please call the Part at 865-436-1230.
