Rebecca Mertz: Missing woman from Pennsylvania Found

UPDATE:  Sept. 29, 2012 – Rebecca’s body has been found near Lake Ontelaunee in Maidencreek Township, according to the Northern Berks Regional Police, after a search after a search and rescue team came across her body.

The coroner has identified her body and her death was called a suicide.

Previous story:  Rebecca Mertz, 31, of Blandon, Pennsylvania has missing since Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, according to Sgt. Ronald Mohl of the Northern Berks Regional police, reports the Reading Eagle.

Rebecca’s car was located on the side of Ridge Road in Maidencreek Township.

“She sent some text messages to her family and friends, which had them alarmed that she might be planning to harm herself,” Mohl said. “She may have had a gun with her and we believe she took significant steps to harm herself because of personal issues.

“At this time we have no sign of any foul play or evidence of any criminal activity.”

Anyone interested in helping search for Rebecca can report to a police command post Saturday at 8 a.m. at the intersection of Ontelaunee, West Shore and Shoemakersville roads.

Mohl said anyone wishing to help should wear a florescent vest or clothing since it is archery season and wear long pants, shirts, shoes and a hat because the area is dense woods.

Also, people should bring a water container and snacks. The search is expected to last from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
