UPDATE:  11/1/12-  Fritz’s body was found by hikers in Neff’s Canyon, along with his dog, Odin.  Officials believe that he may have slipped which caused him to fall down a sloped while holding his dog.  It is believed Fritz was not found before this as his body may have been covered by snow.

Fritz Helland, 80 from Millcreek, Utah has been missing since Wednesday. Family members told police Helland took his dog for a walk about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday and has not returned. The man has short-term memory problems, police said, reports Desert News.

UPD is asking volunteers willing to help search for Helland to meet at the LDS Church at 3370 S. 3100 East at 8 a.m. Saturday.

“We would appeal if anyone has some time tomorrow to come and help us,” Helland’s son, Jacob Helland, said at a news conference Saturday. “We miss my dad and are worried about him, so any help we can get is greatly appreciated.”

Helland is 5 feet 11 inches tall, with white hair and blue eyes. He is possibly wearing a brown or tan jacket.

Police ask anyone with information about Helland’s whereabouts to call 801-743-7000.
