UPDATE: 10/2/13 – On September 19, 2013 Newtown police said they were continuing their investigation into the Robert.
“He is still missing and we are actively following up leads,” Newtown Police Detective Lieutenant Richard Robinson said on the morning of Thursday, September 19.
Previous story: Robert Hoagland, 50, of Newton, Connecticut has been missing for over a month. He was last seen mowing the lawn at his Glen Road home. Earlier that day he had gone to the Mobil gas station at 6:45 a.m. and then the Bagel Delight shop. Hoagland is a culinary teacher at Newtown High School.
“He’s a kind man, a thoughtful man, a loving man,” said Lori Hoagland, his wife. “It just makes no sense.”
Station surveillance camera footage shows him at the bagel shop in a white T-shirt, khaki shorts and his standard loafers. At the counter, he paid with a credit card.
Lori told the NewsTimes she didn’t know Robert was missing until he didn’t pick her up at the airport on July 29 when she got back from her trip to Turkey. Hoagland was traveling back from a 17-day vacation in Turkey.
A neighbor saw Robert mowing his lawn around 10 a.m. and heard Max tell his father he was leaving for a few hours. The mower was found in the basement and his dirty clothes were found in the laundry.
Robert’s cell phone, passport and blood pressure medication were found in his office, but his wallet and key was found hidden in the bedroom a few weeks later. And a cash withdrawal of $600 was made on Thursday before he went missing. Investigators said that Robert had not used his credit card or cell phone since July 28.
