Peretz Sontag: Missing from Rockland County New York Found

UPDATE:  3/23/14 –  Peretz Sontag has been found dead at Harriman State Park.
News 12 reports from sources that a hiker found Sontag’s body inside his black Kia Optima.  Sontag’s body was located in his black 2012 Kia Optima after it apparently traveled over a ravine.  The area had been combed before by volunteers around the time Sontag disappeared, but the car was difficult to spot and a nearby road was closed to the public. Authorities don’t expect foul play.

800 volunteers were at Harriman State Park on Sunday to search for him based on where cellphone pings were last detected. 

Previous Story:  Peretz Sontag, 50, is missing from Monsey, New York in Rockland County since Friday, March 14, 2014.

 Police said he was last seen leaving his Pomona home on Friday morning.The last cell signal from Sontag’s phone was traced to the Stony Point area, which includes Harriman State Park.

The police are also searching for his 2012 Kia Optima, pictured above.

A reward is being offered of $30,000 for information that leads to finding him.

Peretz has 7 children and they appeared at the search center to plead for him to come home.

They believe that he may be depressed because of his failing business after an employee stole from him.  The family had been living in Israel, but financial issues forced them to move back to Pomona.

Peretz Sontag is known in the Orthodox community for his kind heart and years of active service for charitable causes. His uncle,  Shimon has been influential in Ramapo’s Orthodox Jewish community.
