8-year-old Santa Cruz girl disappears while riding her scooter Found

UPDATE 1/23/17 – Adrian Jerry Gonzalez, who was 15 at the time was arrested on suspicion of killing Madyson in Santa Cruz in 2015 and the case is still  ongoing.  The courts are still deciding if Gonzalez will be tried as an minor or as an adult.  The law that went into effect in November 2016, no longer allows children 14 years old or younger to be tried in “adult courts for allegations of: murder, rape, forced lewd acts on children younger than 14, among others.”

According to Mercury News:
“Gonzalez, 17, faces charges of murder with a special allegation of lying in wait, kidnapping, forcible rape, lewd acts with a child younger than 14 and sexual penetration with an instrument, according to court documents. Gonzalez is accused of luring Middleton into his family’s apartment in late July 2015. She was Gonzalez’s neighbor at the Tannery Arts Center apartments. Middleton was sexually attacked, stabbed in the neck and then wedged inside a recycling bin in the apartment complex’s garage, according to Santa Cruz Police Department and information in her death certificate.”
UPDATE;  7/28/15 – “It appears that she was lured to the suspect’s apartment willingly,” said Santa Cruz Police Chief Kevin Vogel. “Additionally, we’ve determined that Maddy was murdered inside of the suspect’s apartment. She was then carried downstairs to the recycle bin.”  It has also been determined that Madyson was rapped and strangled until she died within the first hour that she went missing.  

UPDATE 7/2715 – A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody by the police.   Suddenly according to KRON 4 news police suddenly surrounded the area.   A body has been found according to KRON 4 news, and has been identified to be Madyson Middleton.  She was found about 8 p.m. inside a shed behind the apartment complex.  First a commotion  started in the parking lot and then narrowed down to the shed.  


A woman was heard screaming and she was the 15-year-old mother of the teen that was arrested.  They also questioned her and a man also began to scream and cry and walked away and would not talk to the media so at this time no one knows who the man was.  

This scene started at 8 p.m. Pacific Time and is unfolding at this time.


Original story:  A 8-year-old California girl has gone missing on Sunday afternoon and the FBI has joined the search on Monday.

 
Madyson “Maddy” Middleton, was last seen per surveillance video at 5 p.m. at a Santa Cruz apartment complex called the Tannery Arts Center where she lives on River Street riding her white Razor scooter with pink handles and a LED  base that lights up.  
 

K-9 teams followed her scent to a nearby levee and the  Pacific Ocean beach front, then her scent was lost.  

 
The property manager at the apartment complex told NBC Bay Area news that Maddy was a “really, really sweet girl,” and she lived there with her mother, Laura Jordan. 

At least 100 neighborhood volunteers were up all Sunday night searching for Maddy at homeless encampments and along the levee and back alleys but had no luck in finding her.  The Facebook page Take Back Santa Cruz has been instrumental in spreading the word about missing Maddy.  Maddy was last seen wearing a purple knee-high dress with black leggings, black flip-flops, her helmet and she has long dark hair pulled to the side in a braid, reports KION news.  

 
Helicopters are searching the forest and the coastline. The U.S. Coast Guard is searching the ocean reports CBS Sacramento News
