11-year-old takes taxi to Superdome and disappears Found

John Elrod

UPDATE 9/10/15 – Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Col. John Fortunato said John Elrod was found by an NOPD officer Thursday morning walking on Downman Road. Elrod was in good health when he was found, Fortunato said.

A 11-year-old Louisiana boy called a taxi at 6:30 a.m. to take him to the Superdome and he has not been heard from since.

John Elrod, left his home on Westmeade Drive in Gretna after he called for a cab and was dropped off near Champions Square.  Champions Square is an outdoor festival plaza connected via grand staircase to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.  His goal was to go to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at 1500 Sugar Bowl Dr, New Orleans. There are no events going on till this weekend.

Gretna is about 5 miles away from Champions Square.

It is unclear why he decided to travel alone and head to this destination.  He has never run away before and never spoke to his family about going to that destination.  They do not know what his plans are or what he intended to do once he got there or even if he planed to return that day or stay the night somewhere.  His family’s concerns for him grow as he has not been located and it is now night time.

John was wearing dark color pants, black flip-flops and a blue or black backpack.

If you know his whereabouts, please call the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office at 504-364-5300.
