The police are searching for a man or woman who apparently drove a BMW onto the train tracks in San Diego County and abandoned it. On Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. the train engineer of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train saw the car on the tracks, but could not stop it. Luckily, no one was hurt when the train hit the car near the intersection of Coast Boulevard and 15th Street in Del Mar.

Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement deputies responded to a report of a train versus vehicle collision around 10:20 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2016. The conductor told San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies that just moments before the crash, he saw a woman in a red dress standing near the BMW. The police searched but found no one. According to the Sheriff’s press release, Deputies stated it appeared the car was driven up onto the tracks. Until the police find the person who left the car there, they do not know if it broke down on the tracks or was left there intentionally. The BMW 328i had no plates but it did have a dealership tag from Auto City and was registered in Chula Vista.

Anyone with information about this case or knows who the mystery driver is can call the Sheriff’s Dept. at 858-565-5200.
