Stacey Smart, 51, of Lewiston, Calif. was reported missing on Nov. 2, although she has made no contact with her family since Oct. 12, and the last activity on her card was Oct. 16.
Last week during a water search with sonar, the police believed they had located a body, but when the diving team went in, it was found to be a rock formation.
Nicole Santos-Hamann, Stacey’s daughter told the Trinity Journal that her mother had never gone missing like this before. Santos-Hamann said she usually spoke once or twice a week to her mother, but she stopped hearing from her around Halloween, so she checked with her mother’s friends who said they hadn’t seen her in several weeks.
According to KRCR news, Stacey was living with her boyfriend at Pine Cover Marina the time she went missing and “Angie Forslund, the search manager hired by the Smart family to find Stacey, said she believes he’s a suspect in her disappearance.”
Brand told the Trinity Journal “he didn’t report Smart missing because he thought she had left him without letting him know. She had her own room in the home in addition to their shared room, and he’d been working long hours, said Brand, who said he provides home care for seniors.”
According to Forslund and the family, Smart’s boyfriend changed the carpet in his home near Lewiston Lake after Smart was reported missing. He also told the family she had moved out.
Trinity County Sheriff Bruce Haney told the Journal that the “boyfriend” is not currently considered a person of interest in the case.
There have been reports of Stacey being seen at the Weaverville Gas, but no confirmation.
Stacey’s family are speaking with Cameron Gamble that made a video offering a reward for the return of Sherri Papini from Redding, Calif. According to the Record Searchlight, the Smart family has reached out to Gamble for help in finding Stacey. Whether he will be making a video or offering a reward is yet unknown.
“He’s helping us, he’s giving us advice and kind of helping us with coming up with backers, to help us with a bounty or reward leading up to her whereabouts, what could have happened,” the family said. “We haven’t… firmed up plans quite yet.”
Deputies said Stacey Smart is 5’8″, 180 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Stacey also goes by Stacey Hamilton. She has a tattoo of a red lotus blossom on her lower back. According to a source, “she does not drive and has a significant and disabling injury of her leg and has difficulty in walking…the community is rural and it would have been about a 6 mile walk to Lewiston proper.”
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 623-2611.
There is a $10,000 reward for information on her whereabouts.
