Father still missing after two-year-old son found wandering

UPDATE 3/12/17 – The coroner announced that Matthew was killed by an “accidental boat propeller strike.”

UPDATE 3/10/17 – Matthews’ body was found near the bank a short distance downstream from where the boat was located. Investigators still don’t know what happened but they do not believe there was any foul play.

Original story:  A father and his 2-year old son went missing from Grapevine Lake in Texas on Mon. March 6, 2017. The dad, Matthew Meinert, 38, took a photo of himself and his son, Oliver, shortly before they went missing at Dent Creek.

The boat was found empty on the banks by a citizen who found a cell phone and called Miner’s family. The family called the police and they began searching around 6 p.m. Monday evening, reports the Dallas News. A group of searchers were looking for the pair, when they came across the boy wandering alone near Trophy Club around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

“The child walked right up to [rescuers] and said he wanted juice,” said Capt. Cliff Swafford, a game warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The authorities are continuing their search for Matthew.
