Elderly missing Florida man found on road with throat slashed

Melvin Clark

An 86-year-old Florida man who went missing from Neptune Beach on Saturday, April 8, 2017, was found laying on the road with his throat slashed.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told News4Jax, that Melvin Clark managed to pull himself out of a wet and muddy ditch and onto the road where he was found.  His clothes were soaked and his neck had been cut from “ear to ear” said his wife, Gayle Clark.

Gayle reported him missing on Saturday when he didn’t return from running errands. The last time he was seen, he drove off in black 2005 Honda CRV  to go to Academy Sports on Atlantic Road and then to the Navy Exchange. He did not return so Gayle called the police and reported him missing.

After, Melvin was taken to the hospital, authorities could not locate his car, so they entered it in the database and it was found abandoned on Sunday.  Further investigation found that Melvin’s credit card was also used.  It is apparent that someone took advantage of Melvin’s age and attacked him.

It was a miracle that Melvin survived after losing eight pints of blood, reports News4Jax.  Police right now are trying to figure out who is responsible for this horrendous crime, and are also asking for help from the public if they have any information.  Currently, Melvin is the hospital and cannot talk due to his injuries.

Police are asking anyone who knows anything that could help in the investigation to call 904-630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. To remain anonymous and receive a possible reward up to $3,000 contact CrimeStoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
