Duke University student missing after walking home from party

UPDATE 5/22/17 – Body was positively identified as Michael’s.  Cause of death is pending.

UPDATE 5/21/17 – Authorities have stated they believe they have found Michael’s body.

Original story:  The police are still actively searching in a wooded area in Massachusetts for a missing college student who left a party to walk home.

Michael Doherty, 20, a student at Duke University was back home in Franklin, Mass. for the summer.  He had gone to a friends house on Phyllis Lane in Franklin for a party.  Michael had a ride home planned, but decided to stay later.  He texted his family around 12:30 p.m. for a ride home, but when he didn’t receive a response he decided to walk the mile there. He was seen leaving the party around 1:30 a.m.  It has been raining that night reports Fox news.

His mother realized the next morning he never made it home from the party.  She stated they had all been asleep when he had texted them, reports the Boston Globe.

The authorities have been searching a wooded area in Franklin and Bellingham where Michael’s shirt and shoes were found in the marsh.  The focus of the investigation shifted to nearby Bellingham after they found his other shoe on the side of a brook.  Searchers are continuing their search and state they will continue to do so until he is found.
