Missing woman checked on by police in parking lot; then released

UPDATE:  6/30/17 – On Friday, Piccolo’s mother, Barbara Piccolo, said Kimberly was found around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday in her car in the Walmart parking lot in Bangor.  The family went to pick her up and she is now home.

Kimberly Piccolo, 31, was reported missing from Newtown, Connecticut on the morning of June 26, 2017.  Later that evening around 8 p.m. in Clinton, Maine, the police were called to the Tradewinds Market on Hinckley Road to check on an unresponsive female.  Later it was realized that the female was Kimberly.  When approached by the police, Kimberly told them she was waiting for her friends to pick her up.  At that time, the police did not know Kimberly was missing, and deemed she was fine.  Apparently they knew nothing about her being missing.

Usually a missing person report is put into NCIC so that police know state-wide when someone goes missing, but in this case it appears as though the information was not put in NCIC or the police didn’t check her identification.  There is no explanation reported on this, so we are only left to assume why they didn’t know she was a missing person.

The Clinton Police Dept. posted: “On 06/25/17 at 7 PM, Officer Townsend was dispatched to Tradewind Market on the Hinckley Road for a female in her vehicle not responding. Officer Townsend and Rescue personnel did speak with her. She told Officer Townsend that she fell asleep and was waiting for friends to pick her up. She appeared to be in good condition and she refused medical care. Officer Townsend did not have probable cause to make her go for a medical evaluation.”

Clinton police Chief Rusty Bell told the Morning Sentinel the surveillance footage showed Kimberly getting out of her car a couple of times to go into the store.  She finally drove off around 8:30 p.m. heading in the direction of I-95.

Her mother stated that Kimberly was acting different prior to her disappearance and seemed to be very vigilant and was double checking that doors and windows were locked, the Bangor Daily News said.

Kimberly is described 5’10” tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was seen driving a gray 2009 Mazda 3 with Connecticut license plate reading 926YOV.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding her. If you have any information please contact Clinton Police at (207) 426-9192.
