Joseph “Sky” Burnley disappears while helping friend search for stolen truck

Joseph Skylar “Sky” Burnley, 27,  has been missing since  June 3, 2016 from Bridges Road in Rankin County, East of Brandon and North of 1-20 in Pearl, Miss.   He was last seen at 10 a.m. Friday when he and a friend, Travis Brewer and the friend’s wife, Amanda June Morris and 4-year-old daughter went to look for the truck, they believe was stolen.  The cell phone was in the truck and they were using an APP on the cellphone to try to locate it.  During the search they split up and Brewer ended up taking Morris and the child back to the home after they became to hot.  Brewer attempted to locate Burnley before they left, but couldn’t find him.  He returned to the area in the woods to find Burnley afterwards, but he still couldn’t locate him.

Authorities had searched 400 acres and could not locate him and stated they believed that Burnley was no longer in the area. But, where would Burnley go and why.  He was the caretaker for his 92-year-old grandmother and it is unlikely he would abandon her.

Burnley was last seen in a gas station surveillance photo, near the area, at 9:48 a.m. Friday morning.  Brewer waited till 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning to report his truck stolen.

But there is a twist to the story, the Undersheriff told MSNews that the truck was found broken down by Brewer without his cell phone inside.

“I have reason to believe now the cell phone may have never been in it,” said Duke. “So the story about them searching for the phone may have been a problem.”

Brewer and Morris are facing unrelated misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia that were a result of a search warrant related to Burnley’s disappearance, authorities said.

There is a $20,500 reward for his whereabouts.
