Missing Wichita boy likely found in concrete

UPDATE:  9/6/17 – It will still be a couple more weeks before a positive identification is made through DNA, but the police are sure it is Evan.  New information is that Carlo reported his son was being abused in April 2017.  Also, Evan is the grandson of Kansas Gubernatorial candidate and former Wichita mayor, Carl Brewer.

When children go missing, it may take a few days but it usually makes national news quickly.  But this case about a missing 3-year-old from Wichita, Kansas, didn’t go much farther than local news, until the toddlers body was likely found in a concrete structure of a home on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017 by the landlord cleaning out the home.

Evan Brewer, 3, had been missing from his home on the 2000 block of South Vine since July 6, 2017.  The Wichita Eagle reports that the owner of the residence at 2037 South Vine in Wichita came across the concrete structure which had a strong odor. Police arrived and when they pulled the cement lid off, they found the little boy’s remains inside.

The home where the body was found is where Evan and his mother Miranda Miller, 36 and her boyfriend, Stephen Bodine, 40, lived.  They were already in police custody after being arrested for charges on child custody last week, reports, KWCH-TV reported.

An attorney for the boy’s father, Carlo Brewer, told KWCH, “We have known this child has been missing for months at that location and it was a 3-year-old’s body that was found.”

Neighbors say they are shocked, “It was a green tarp, but you can see a box if you would. Heavy. I hate to say it, but it looked like a small coffin. Cause it was like the size of a toddler bed. But very heavy. (It) took a forklift to get it out of the house,” one neighbors told the media.

Carlo had been trying to get a court order to get his son out of the home since July.

A few people on Facebook were sharing his missing story.

If you have been following the case of little Evan Brewer, now is the time to pray. If you have not, now’s the time to follow and pray! Mom was spotted and arrested this afternoon, and Evan was not with her. Boyfriend was arrested soon after at the house where they had been hiding, and Evan was not in the home. The family just wants him home with his father where he belongs. Please pray for Evan’s safety and protection.

A source stated that Carlo had full custody of Evan and a PFA granted by a judge against Miranda and Stephen.  The police came to the home many times, but no one answered the door.  Since the neighbors saw no one at the home at that time, they believed that no one was living there any longer.  Last week the police arrived back at the home and arrested Bodine and Miller.  During the arrest they could not locate Evan.

A witness statement posted on Facebook shows a concerned citizen was trying to let the authorities know back in May that Evan was in danger:

Although we do not know the whole story, it makes you wonder why CPS was not called in to check on Evan in May.  But since we do not know the time frame when the authorities came to the home and left when no one came to the door, it is a possibility that they had been trying to locate him for a while.  But, then again, we don’t know if they even actually got the above witness statement or not, as when the police began to look for Evan is unknown at this time.

Also, neighborhoods knew he was missing and were upset about it.  According to CrimeOnline, Bodine and Miller came home one day to find dozens of flyers about a missing child attached to their vehicle with around 40 to 50 people standing outside the home, protesting.  Below is his poster on the NCMEC website:
