UPDATE 9/12/17 – Kentucky State Police said searchers found the a body on Monday in Jackson County, less than a mile from where Jessica. Family members said it is James Spoonamore. No cause of death was released at the time.
UPDATE 9/11/17 – More information has come out about this case. According to James’ aunt, a family friend arrived at the house and asked for help waking up Durham’s husband, David, who was in the house.
“She walked in there and when she walked in, the guy hit her in the back of the head and she fell to the ground,” said Batson, who spoke with Durham on Sunday. “He got mad because she didn’t get knocked out with the first hit so he hit her two or three more times. She would never knock out,” James’ aunt told the Lexington Herald Leader. He then tied her up and blindfolded her and put her in the backseat with James who was already in the car.
Lonnie Belt, 41, admitted that he got into an argument with Spoonamore about money and hit her in the head, tied her up, took her to the cliff and beat her, reports WKYT. He was arrested and charged with kidnappings of an adult and minor, assault and tampering with physical evidence, on Saturday.
The Kentucky State Police are searching for a 5-year-old boy that is missing out of Jackson County since Friday.
The family told WKTY that a family acquaintance showed up at the home in the Turkey Foot area in Sandgap and forced a woman and her young son into a car. The mother was beaten up then thrown over a cliff off Highway 89, then tied up. The woman was heard screaming by a hikers in the area, who called the police.
Very little is coming out about the situation by the authorities. And no description of the man nor a vehicle has been released at this time. The family says the boy’s mother is in critical condition at UK Hospital. The mother, Jessica Durham Spoonamore stated the last time she saw the boy was in the woods, and she doesn’t know where he went, reports LEX 18. The authorities are searching the woods.
The boy’s name that is missing is James Spoonamore.
A post by Jessica’s sister-in-law reads:
“Oh Rae it’s so heartbreaking! There is no news station covering it AT ALL and he’s been in the woods for two nights alone. He and his mom were kidnapped, she was beaten and thrown over a cliff (left for dead), and she sent him for help two days ago. Someone heard her yelling for help yesterday and they found her then,” posted Chasey Brown Spurgeon.
There are also social media rumors that the person that harmed Jessica was put into custody. Time will tell if this is true or just a rumor.
Authorities are asking if anyone sees James to call 911.
