Facts leading up to Margaret Fox’s disappearance
Margaret Fox was a student at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic School in Burlington. She and her cousin, Lynn Parks, placed a classified ad in their local newspaper seeking work as a babysitter. Parks received a respond from a man who said he would take her to his Mount Holly home to babysit his 5-year-old son, and that he had a backyard swimming pool, and a swing set at his Mount Holly residence. Her parents wouldn’t allow her to go, so Lynn gave the information to Margaret. When Margaret called him, the man said he would pay her $40 to babysit the child for four hours a day, five days a week, and that he would meet her at the bus stop at Mill and High Streets in Burlington on June 24. Fox left a note for her parents detailing where she was going, states the Inquirer. She went with one of her brothers, and he watched her get on the bus. Witnesses later told investigators they saw Margaret near Mill and High Streets.
Hours later after Margaret’s disappearance, Margaret’s mom received a phone call. The man claimed he had Margaret in his custody and demanded money for her return., reports Fox news. The man said, “$10,000 might be a lot of bread but your daughter’s life is the buttered topping,” he said.
