Susan Powell: Dogs find remains near Topaz Mountain

Susan Powell

Five cadavers dogs have confirmed that remains have been found near Topaz Mountain in Juab County, and West Valley City police are wondering if they are the remains of Susan Cox Powell.  Susan disappeared Dec 6, 2009.

West Valley City police have been searching the area since Monday.  The remains were found around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and since the medical examiners office would not be able to reach the area before dark, authorities will be camping there overnight to guard the crime scene that has been ribboned off.

In the past, there have been four other times, over the last two years that remains have been found and speculation were they may be Susan, but they were not.

In January 2010, West Valley City police found remains near West Wendover which turned out to be Jesus Landin, a homicide victim from Lehi.

Chuck Cox, Susan’s father thinks it is not very likely that the remains are Susan’s as it would have been difficult to have gone to that area because there was a snowstorm the night she disappeared.

Josh Powell the only person of interest named in the disappearance of his wife, Susan, said he was camping with his sons the night she went missing.  The area where the remains were found are about an hour away from where Josh went camping on the Pony Train in Toole County.

  1. I heard this morning that REMAINS weren't actually found but that the cadaver dogs picked up on the scent of human decomposition & a shallow unearthed grave was found. Definite human decomp, but no actual remains. Wondering if that's the latest you have heard. Still so sad for Susan's family & her sons.
