The family posted on Facebook on Easter Sunday:
Hallelujah. Our prayers have been answered! In response to the powerful prayers for Jim on Good Friday, his remains were found midday on Saturday. Don Newton found Jim’s body in a remote section of Woods Canyon. While the Yavapai Sheriff’s office still considers the body a John Doe, Karen (wife) was able to identify his wedding ring.
I received an email from the family of missing Jim Schwartz. They wanted to clear up some information about Jim. The below information has been confirmed to be true by the Schwartz family:
Also, per a released from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, there was a tip received about a hitchhiker that was spotted on October 19, around 5:00 p.m., matching James’ description, on Highway 179 near the US Forest Service Ranger Station. The man was trying to flag down vehicles heading towards the I17, and the man was wearing a jacket similar to the grey fleece jacket James was likely wearing. The man also had on hiking boots and carrying a black colored back pack.
This tip has not been confirmed to be James so there is still a possibility James is still in the Sedona area.
Jim is probably wearing “Hi-Tec” brand hiking boots, and his black “JanSport” brank backpack will probably have survival items inside; orange tarp, navy blue waterproof jacket and survival book. He mentioned he would like to visit, Temple, Tucson or Las Vegas areas.
If you see James contact YCSO at 923-771-3260.
