UPDATE: Boise police issued a news release that Hunter had been found.
Young’s father told the Idaho Statesman that his son was arrested for shoplifting in Idaho Falls on Tuesday and was being held in a juvenile detention center.
Previous story: Hunter Young, 17-year-old junior and starting guard and leading scorer for Capital High School basketball team has been reported missing after he didn’t show up for a hunting trip in Emmett on Saturday. Hunter ranked second in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference.
Young was last seen when he went to bed about 11 p.m. Friday, said Krista Young, his mother, reports the Idaho Statesmen. She said he had taken the equipment he would have needed for bird hunting that Saturday. She also stated that she called Hunter’s cellphone and someone answered Saturday afternoon. The cellphone was found by a customer at the Circle K store in Connell, Wash, when they heard the constant ringing and turned it over to the police.
Store video and didn’t show that Young had been there. A search of his phone showed a map to Priest Lake in North Idaho.
