UPDATE: 3/18/13 – Police say that Emelene is safe. She was found in Roswell, New Mexico and she went there on her own. The police found her Hyundai Accent in a hotel parking lot on Saturday evening.
As they were investigating, VanDyke voluntarily came forward and spoke to the officer.
UPDATE 3/11/12 – In a press release Holland police said an automated plate reader on U.S. 70 near Alamagordo, New Mexico, picked up the plate of a Hyundai Accent that Emelene might be driving around 4 p.m. Sunday.
Detective obtained photos from the plate reader and said the driver appeared to resemble VanDyke and she was the only one in the car.
Her family has been notified and police have increased efforts in the New Mexico area to find her.
Previous story: Emelene Joy VanDyke, 36, from Holland, Mich. has been missing from her home in the 500 block of College Avenue since leaving for a “retreat,” in possibly the Traverse City area on the weekend of February 14.
After her vacation she was to return to work on February 19, but did not show up. VanDyke’s employer contacted her ex-husband and he reported VanDyke as missing.
Emelene was last heard from by her upstairs neighbor. She sent a text message around 6 p.m. after purchasing a new car from a local dealership and withdrawing a large amount of money from her bank. Nothing suspicious was found in surveillance photos of her and show her alone. She has not used her cell phone or debit card since Feb. 14.
VanDyke new car is a gray 4D, 2013 Hyundai Accent. Her license plate number is CGE8162.
She has sandy blonde hair, hazel eyes, and is around 5 feet 7 inches in height and approximately 200 pounds.
