Mandy Matula missing after boyfriend shot himself; found

UPDATE 10/27/13 – Wayne Matula, Mandy’s father, stated he was notified by the police that a hiker had found remains in a Miss. River Park near Sartell on Saturday afternoon that may be his daughters.  Near the remains was a University of Minnesota Duluth sweatshirt emblazoned with No. 14, which was Mandy’s number when she played on the school’s softball team, the Star Tribune reported.

Later,  Police said that autopsy results indicated that she died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

UPDATE:  5/4/13 – Authorities have announced that David Roe has died.

Previous story:  Mandy Marie Matula, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota has been missing since Wednesday night around 11 p.m. by her family.  Mandy, who  works part-time for the city of Eden Prairie’s park maintenance division, did not show up for work on Thursday.

Her family called the police the following morning.

Authorities believe that Mandy was with David Roe, 24, of Victoria around 1:30 a.m. at Miller Park on Thursday.

Roe was asked to come in for questioning and made it as far as Eden Prairie City Hall where he parked his car and shot himself.    Police stated on Friday that he was still alive.  Roe left a note on his dashboard, but the authorities are not releasing what was in the note.

Investigators have done a large scale search for Mandy, but have not located her or have come up with any clues to where she may be.

Mandy’s father told KSTP that Mandy had dated Roe and had broken up with him recently even though Roe did not want to. 

Police stated that residents can help with the search by looking on their own properties.

Police are asking that anyone who saw a black 2013 Ford Escape, with the Minnesota plate 802-KNA, should call the Eden Prairie Police Department at 952-949-6200. They are trying to establish where the vehicle was on Wednesday night.
