Mark Joseph Himebaugh was last seen near his home in Del Haven, N. J. on Nov. 25, 1991. His mom, got home at 2:30 p.m. and saw Mark on the sofa watching TV. He heard sirens outside and left to go see what was going on. There was a fire and Mark watched the firefighters putting out a fire on Sunray Beach Road around 2:30 that afternoon. Around 3:20 p.m., Mark’s mom saw Mark near their driveway as she left to take a a neighbor to an auto body shop. She told Mark she’d be right back and he acknowledged her with a simple, “Okay, Mom.”
An hour later he was seen by four teenagers and a local couple on Delaware Bay. Then around 3:45 p.m. he was seen by a guard entering Cape May County Park South with an unidentified 9 or 10-year-old girl, reports Shore News Today. She was blonde and wearing a blue parka. She has never been identified.
There was also a possible sighting of Mark with two males, but there is only a description of the one man.
Mark’s one sneaker was found on Delaware Bay Beach and nothing else.
UPDATE 9/20/16 – Police are asking for the publics help with Mark’s case after receiving new information they want to pursue. Police Chief Christopher Leusner stated, “If anyone knows of any links to Cape May County with Thomas Butcavage we want to hear from you.”
Butcavage is originally from Haverford. He now is currently in prison for child sex crimes. He was tied to the case by a tipster who went public with a claim that Butcavage had showed him child pornography featuring Himebaugh.
In August 2015, the police stated they wanted to talk to the person that came forward in 1993. The person who self-identified himself as Daniel Coll, came forward and also spoke with the media. He stated that he was a male sex worker at the time and was with Thomas Butcavage. Coll told NBC10 he was with Butcavage the night of Feb. 14, 1993 inside his Haverford Township apartment. That’s when he said Butcavage showed him a graphic video that left him traumatized to this day, reports NBC Philadelphia.
“A little boy who was shackled, handcuffed and had a ball gag in his mouth,” Coll said.
Coll told NBC10 Butcavage sexually assaulted the boy in the video and he’s positive that boy was Himebaugh. Coll said to Butcavage it looked like the missing boy, and he Coll said Butcavage confessed and said it was him.
I said, ‘What did you do with him?’ He said, ‘Well, I did like I did the rest of them. I dispose them.’ ‘What do you mean the rest of them?’ He said, ‘Well, I got five or six other kids I did.’”
Police Chief Christopher Leusner, “If anyone knows of any links to Cape May County with Thomas Butcavage we want to hear from you.”
The police searched Butcavage’s apartment with a warrant. They could find nothing that tied him to Mark and he was never charged but in September 9th, 1998 he was arrested on multiple charges of deviate sexual intercourse,
sexual abuse of children, indecent assault and corruption of minors. Butcavage pleaded guilty.
What can be noted about Butcavage is he groomed his victims and never kidnapped them. But, the police did find during the search adult pornography, drug and bondage paraphernalia and the ball gag the boy was wearing in the film.
Them in 2016, the police have announced they are asking for the public to help them decipher information they received from a tip called into the Middle Township police back in 2010.
The call came into the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children around 3:30 in the morning on Dec. 27. The man who only identified himself as the son of the witness of the crime was calling from the Sunoco gas station at Richmond and Castor Streets in Philadelphia’s Port Richmond neighborhood which is about 80 miles from where Mark Joseph Himebaugh, age 11, was last seen.
The man who only identified himself as the son of the witness of the crime gave the name of Gilbert Patrick Marie, (although many people believe he was actually saying Gilbert Patrick Murray) as the person who was involved in Mark’ s disappearance, but the police have not been able to identify anybody by that name, reports NBC Philadelphia.
Middle Township Detective Allan McClure is reaching out to the public in hopes someone may know the name given or possible recognize the voice on the recorded call.
Himebaugh is still missing. His mother Maureen still hopes he will be found and remains in the same house that she lived in with Mark.
