UPDATE 2018 – Jonathan Daniel Smith remains were found on County Road 350 on Dec, 5, 2017. The remains were sent ofr for identification and in 2018 he was postively identified.
Authorities found a duffel bag about a quarter mile from where the remains were found. Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said the duffel bag had Smith’s name on it in several places, and it contained numerous personal items, including a Bible with Smith’s name on it.
Original Story: Jonathan Smith, 37, was last seen in Jasper, Texas on July 15, 2015.
Smith’s car was found torn up and abandoned on Farm to Market Road 252 at County Road 348, but there was no sign of him. According to KJAS News “there was a possible sighting of Smith by a Jasper Police officer, who believes that he saw him hanging around the Tri-a-Nite Motel on North Wheeler Street in Jasper.”
Jonathan was wearing a t-shirt, blue jeans, boots and a ball cap.
He has a moon-shaped scar under his eye, and a mole near his left eye. Jonathan is of slim build, wears glasses and has a goatee & mustache and is 6’1″ tall.
