Molly Miller, 17, and Colt Haynes, 21, were together when they went missing on July 8, 2013.
Molly Miller and Colt Haynes were in a car with Con Nipp. According to the Daily Beast, “Police say Nipp was driving his girlfriend’s 2012 Honda Accord around 10:46 p.m., and recklessly spun toward two parked patrol cars in Wilson, Oklahoma.”
According to the Daily Ardmoreite, Nipp raced through a downtown area before turning on State Highway 76 and turning off his car’s headlights. Then Nipp entered a Love County road, his vehicle spewing gravel at cops, who eventually lost him. The car was found 2 weeks later, in a field near where the pursuit ended.
According to Operation Find Molly Miller, “At 12:57 a.m Molly called 911, it was a 5 second phone call. Dispatch called her right back with no response. No one was ever dispatched to the area to check out the 911 call. The 911 call came in to Marietta dispatch. We know her phone pinged off a towers between Pike and Long Hollow Rd. The actions of Love County and their relationship to the driver of the car have left a lot of unanswered questions. Love County Sheriff is related to the driver of the car. We feel their lack of corporation has hampered our efforts in finding OUR Molly.”
As far as Colt’s whereabouts, the OHP analyzed cellphone records and it showed that Nipp, Haynes, and Miller were traveling together when the police chase started. Their phones pinged the same cell towers, according to the Ardmoreite.
Molly and Colt have not been seen since that day.
Nipp turned himself into the police in early 2014. Although he was sentenced to 10 years he was released from prison on March 5, 2018.
The story takes an unusual twist with the Love County Sheriff Marion “Joe” Russell. Colt’s family who knew the sheriff personally said Russell would not meet with them after Colt’s disappearance, and according to them avoided them at all costs. Also, remember Nipp? Russell and Nipp are cousins.
Then in 2016, three years after Molly and Colt’s disappearance, a grand jury filed charges to remove Sheriff Russell from office on corruption charges. The FBI had investigated allegations that he assisted his 38-year-old son’s meth dealing.
In March 2017, Russell pleading no contest to willful omission to perform a duty, a misdemeanor charge. He was sentenced to one year unsupervised probation and $370 in court costs, according to KXII news. His son, Willie was convicted in 2015 for dealing methamphetamine.
During the trial the affidavit revealed much more details surrounding the case. For example, the affidavit stated that Sara Bamburg, who was a fugitive was living with Russell and when she moved out Russell arrested her and the man she moved in with. Also, the affidavit stated that Nipp was allowed to meet with his family unsupervised while he was in custody and had access to evidence storage. Media searches show that even back in 2002, the sheriff’s office under Sheriff Russell was accused of Backboarding.
The whereabouts of Molly Miller and Cody Haynes are still unknown. No new information has been found on their case and it does not seem to be an active investigation with law enforcement.
