February 5, 2019 – The authorities are looking for a couple that may have seen Serenity. – (Police stated they have found the couple this afternoon and have talked with them.) They stated they believe a man and woman were cutting wood in the area of Foster Gulch and South Rockerville Road and spoke with the Black Hills Children’s Home staff between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. They are being described as in their late 20’s or early 30’s and driving a pickup truck. They want to speak with them to get clarification which direction Serenity was going.
Also, more information has come our surrounding the circumstances of her disappearance. Bill Colson, Executive Director for the Children’s Home Society stated during a press conference that Serenity June Dennard took off during gym time around 11:20 a.m. on Sunday.
“We had two staff and four children who were in the gym together. One child went one direction, and one of the staff members who was with the children went with her, and Serenity went the other way, and another staff member couldn’t pursue her because she had two other children and she was the only staff remaining,” said Colson.
Police were not able to use a plane because of the snow on Sunday, but have been using K-9’s that have alerted but it has not lead to Serenity.
The Children’s Home Society is a private nonprofit that provides help to children with emotional or behavioral needs, including victims of domestic violence, abuse and neglect, or other trauma.
Original Story – 9-year-old Serenity Dennard who went missing from Rockerville, South Dakota on Sunday, February 3, 2019. She was seen leaving the Children’s Home Society on South Rockerville Rd. in Rapid City around 11:30 a.m. and may be heading to her family in Sturgis.
The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office describes Dennard as 4’7″, 90 pounds, with blue eyes and shoulder length dirty blonde hair.
She was last seen wearing only a long-sleeved grey shirt with flowers, blue jeans and snow boots.
Custer County Search and Rescue has also been called in. Ground crews, search crews, ATVs, and UTSs are searching for her.
