March 7, 2019 – Christopher Madison has been arrested and preliminary cause of death was strangulation. Christopher Madison lives with his girlfriend in a mobile home at the same address as Amberly’s aunt, where she lived. A Facebook account belonging to Madison and his girlfriend shows she is friends with Amberly’s mother. Madison was arrested for drug charges on March 2, and murder charges were added on the 4th.
March 4, 2019 – Atlanta’s Channel 2 Action News reports that the family said her body was found in woods behind her Aunt’s home. The cause of death has not been released, but the family said they were told her death was “brutal.”
At the 3 p.m. press conference the Sheriff announced that Amberly Barnett was found deceased at 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Sheriff Welden stated his “heart was shattered.” Once again he did not take any questions.
March 2, Update: The press conference began around 1:20. Sheriff Nick Welden stated they received a call about missing Amberly Barnett. They searched throughout the night. Welden stated he will not be answering any questions from the media and he would be back at 3 p.m. to announce any new information.
Many on social media are perplexed by all this. They are asking why do a presser and say nothing?
After watching a lot of presser over the years, this one was very different than most. Welden was reserved and to the point. The fact he took no questions was unusual. The fact he was alone at the podium was unusual.
In this modern world, the public has gotten used to asking any question and expecting a thorough answer, so not getting that from Sheriff Welden is very frustrating.
What I do know is we only know a little bit of the story and Sheriff Welden has the full story and although he is not sharing it with us, we have to accept his judgement as a police officer that he is doing the right thing.
What we do know is that Amberly is out there somewhere. Look over her photo, be on high alert in the Alabama area and in surrounding states. You see a young girl at a truck stop or gas station fitting Amberly’s description, make sure it’s not her. If you are not sure, take a photo, let the sheriff know so they can check it out.
Original Story: Amberly Barnett, 11, went missing from Collinsville, Alabama on March 1, 2019. She was last seen at her Aunt’s residence in the 1900 block of County Rd 822.in the Sandrock area around 6 p.m.
On March 2, the police announced they have called off the search and will be holding a press release at 1 p.m. There was speculation as to what this meant. Has Amberly been found? If so, it is likely they would have stated such. (I will be doing an update after the press release.)
Jonie, Amberly’s mother posted, “AMBERLY BARNETT IS MISSING! SOMEONE GOT MY DAUGHTER FROM MY SISTERS HOME IN Collinsville/sandrock ALABAMA! She is 11 year’s old WEIGHT 98POUNDS AMD IS 5’1”, SANDY BLONDE HAIR BLUE EYES AND WEARS GLASSES. Her phone was left behind and my baby takes it everywhere. Nothing in her phone indicated she was planning to leave! My sis had went to the store while her brother in law who was outside working on the house next door/same land and drive way. Amberly is the type to not do anything that she will get in trouble for. She is so scared of anyone being mad at her or getting in trouble. She would not have ran away or make plans to go off somewhere. A Green SUV was seen leaving the driveway! Please share and call 911 if you see or hear of anything. Please help bring my baby girl home. I beg you please help me me and Josh Hackney find our baby girl.”
Amberly has a phone but it was found at her Aunt’s home.
