Couple missing from Battle Creek; trouble with landlord FOUND

UPDATE: 10/16/20 – Battle Creek Police Department said they found the bodies of a missing couple wrapped in plastic in an abandoned garage. The landlord has confessed to killing them.

“Reed told investigators that he shot Soule after he pulled a knife out on him. He then shot Lepird as she was running away before beating and strangling her in the backyard,” reports WOODTV. “He then admitted to wrapping their bodies in a bag and putting them in the back of his truck. Once family member started searching for the couple, he moved the truck with their bodies into a garage at an abandoned home in the area.”

Reed left their bodies in the truck outside the landlord’s home for a “couple of days” before he moved the truck to the garage at the vacant home, Reed told detectives.

Original Story: The Battle Creek Police Department is searching for a missing Battle Creek couple. Joseph Soule (34) and Jaclyn Lepird (31) were both last seen on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, said the Battle Creek Police Department. Jacklyn lives on Post Avenue in Battle Creek with her boyfriend, Joey Soule.

Jacklyn’s aunt, Robin posted, “My niece Jaclyn Lepird and her boyfriend Joey Soule. Have been missing For a week now. They found their car over by Bailey park in Battle Creek Michigan. No one has heard from her in 7 days. Our family is deeply worried. They have a person of interest in custody. Please help us find them.”

Joey

During an interview with the news, the family stated that Jacklyn had told her family and friends that she was having trouble with the landlord she was renting a house from and the landlord told Jacklyn she didn’t want Joey there.

“She said that the landlord was getting weird on her and that he didn’t want Joey there or Joey around. He was, I guess, acting weird around Joey. It was just weird. That’s her own home. She should be able to have whoever she wants in her home,” said Ashley Lepird.

The family went to the home and found that it looked as though the floorboards in the bedroom have been replaced.

There have been volunteers at Bailey Park in Pennfield searching for Jacklyn and Joey, but so far they have not been found.

A post was put up on Facebook concerning Jacklyn’s car as it was left in front of a woman’s house and they were trying to find out who it belonged to. “this car has been parked outside my moms house for at least 5 day.” The post resulted in Jacklyn’s family seeing it and they responded:

At one point, according to Joey’s brother, Jimi, an individual was claiming rights to the car, but the police were called and they intervened and now have the car.

The person of interest that is in custody as mentioned by Jacklyn’s aunt, has been named on social media but the information has not been released by the authorities at this time. Property records show it’s owned by a Chad Allan Reed, 53. Reed lived below and rented out the upstairs. A look at mug shots show this individual lived at that address in 2016. Chad is a registered sex offender.

Details surrounding their disappearance are largely unknown at this time. Please contact Calhoun County Dispatch at 269-781-0911 or Silent Observer at 269-964-3888, if you have seen them or have information on their whereabouts
