Robert “Bob” Dale missing from Michigan

Robert “Bob” Alan Dale has been missing from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan since May 18, 1996.

Bob and his wife, Kristi had gone to a wedding reception in the area of Six Mile and Mackinac Trail. They left around 11:10 p.m. Witnesses say they were in a van and Kristi was driving heading north on Mackinac Trail. They were going to the Downtowner Bar.

“May 18th, 1996 we received a phone call that following morning, approximately five or six in the morning from Bob’s wife Kristi, that she called and she was somewhat frantic stating that she couldn’t find Bob, he’s missing,”Bob’s brother, Scott Dale told

The official timeline places Bob at The Downtowner Bar around 11:30 p.m. where he subsequently left on foot and was never seen again.

The next day there was an extensive search downtown and on and off the water, but Bob was never found.

In interviews that Kristi did with several medias over the earlier years after Bob went missing she states that Bob was at the bar with her.

But, as more research has been done in the last few years, many are doubting that Bob was ever in the downtown area. During a WSOO interview, detective Darrell Harp, of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Dept. stated that they received a call on May 19, from Kristi stating that Bob was missing. Harp said there was an extensive search in the downtown area, including the canals, but now they know in hindsight “that there is a lot of areas that could have came into play..from the time Bob and Kristi were observed leaving this reception that they attended…” Harp also stated there was areas not searched. “That area they were last seen together, going north…there really wasn’t a focus of that area at that time.”

I spoke with Kathy Dale, the sister-in-law of Bob, who said over time they have found that Bob was never seen in nor outside the bar. Other than Kristi’s statements, no one else saw Bob.

As time has gone by, even Kristi herself is not sure the last time she saw Bob. Kristi stated to WSOO, (click on. blue link to hear the interview) “there are pieces that I don’t remember.” Det. Harp stated to WSOO that Bob was intoxicated and passed out in the van, and it is not known when he got out. “That is what has been troublesome to us,” said Det. Harp.

I reached out to Kristi to talk with her, but at this writing have not gotten a response.

In this clipping it states Bob was last seen around 11:30 p.m. on May 18, 1996, “walking down Moloney’s Alley”…but Det. McLeod stated they were “unable to establish he was in the downtown area as reported.”

New information that the Find Bob Dale Facebook page has found out is that there was a call that came in of a distrubance in the area that Bob and Kristi may have been. They are asking if anyone knows anymore to contact them or Det. Harp.

Last year the family began receiving more and more tips and the family has been releasing bits of information on Find Bob Dale‘s Facebook page. They don’t want to jeopardize the investigation so they have not divuldge everything they know.

Bob was 33 when he went missing and would now be 58. He was described as 5’7″ and weighing approximately 170 pounds with dark hair and a mustache.
