Family dog found with human skull of missing woman

A man says he found his dog with a human skull in his back yard in Lancaster, South Carolina.

Authorities were called to the 1700 block of Old Lynwood Circle, after Michael Ivey, 45, found the skull.

Michael said his pit bull, had broken its chain and ran into the woods behind the home.  When the dog came back and he went to chain him back up, he saw that the dog had brought back a human skull.

Police say that Edith Cauthen was reported missing in mid-July and has not been seen since.  She lived on Old Lynwood Circle,and was known to walk the path that was often used by neighbors to cut throughthe woods.

Lancaster County STAR Team and the South Carolina Foothills Search and Rescue  searched the woods and found the rest of the remains of a human.

Edith suffered from medical conditions and police don’t believe there was any foul play involved.

The Medical Examiner will determine the exact identity of the remains.
