Carnel Chamberlain: Four-year-old missing in Michigan Found

Anthony Bennett

UPDATE:  June 29, 2012 – It has come out that according to the criminal complaint, Bennett had abused Carnel for some time before his death, but it wasn’t reported.
Jaimee Chamberlain told the FBI that in late May or early June she saw her son with a bruised and swollen face as well as a cut lip.
She said her son had been struck by Bennett when she was away from the home. A few days later, she said she saw Bennett pick up her son by the neck and drop him before dragging him into a room by his foot, according to the court document.

I don’t know about you, but I believe that Jaimee should go to jail, too.

UPDATE:  June 29, 2012 –  Anthony Bennett is charged in a federal criminal complaint Friday in Bay City for assaulting Carnel.

(IMO – I think it will come out that Bennett finally told police where Carnel was and that is why they went back to the porch to look again.  Police have Bennett in jail on assault charges but will probably charge him with murder as soon as they have all their ducks in a row.  No matter how sympathetic you are with Jaimee, don’t forget that she chose this guy to live with and to have her son around and she knew he had been in jail before, and was not a nice person, BUT still thought he would be a good babysitter. – I am sorry Carnel had to pay the ultimate price for her bad decision.)

UPDATE:  June 28, 2012-  Kevin Chamberlain says the body Carnel was found today, buried under a wood porch at the boy’s home.  I have heard the body was burned.

UPDATE:  June 26, 2012 -Police said that Jaimee Chamberlain was given a polygraph on June 22, but did not release the results.  Jaimee said that she had passed the test and a second one that was given and she passed it, too. Bennett denied requests to take a polygraph test, police said.

(I am confused as to why she would be given two tests if she already passed the first one.  If you want to know more about polygraphs, click here)

UPDATE: Frank Cloutier, Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe spokesman said a search warrant was executed Monday.  The warrant was for collecting physical evidence and was related to Anthony.

UPDATE: Anthony Michael Bennett, 20, has been named a person of interest. (Word is that he has refused to take a lie detector test.)

“He’s playing a cat and mouse game and he is not being cooperative,” said Tribal Spokesman Frank Cloutier about Bennett.

Bennett is under state probation for fleeing a traffic stop while drinking and driving near the Bradley Trailer Park two years ago.

According to an abuse-neglect petition filed in Isabella County Trial Court in February 2008, which was a month after Carnel was born, Jaimee had substance abuse problems at that time and Carnel was placed in foster care.  Jaimee completed her requirements by the Tribal system and was given custody of Carnel.

Carnel’s father, Bryon Keith Francis, 21, is in prison for felonious assault.  He was named in an abuse-neglect petition.   He has not been a part of Carnel’s life.

Update:  Jaimee told the media that she is willing to do anything to get her son back, and offered the public her phone number, 989-317-7256 and her home address, 7340 E. Tomah Road, to anyone who can help.

UPDATE:  June 23

  • Police  say they’re now focusing on the child’s mother’s boyfriend and the boyfriend is not cooperating. (I posted that info last night, see below)
  • “The mother has been fully cooperative in this developing investigation,” said Tribal spokesman Frank Cloutier in a statement released Saturday morning. “The boyfriend, however, has not fully cooperated in the investigation thus far.” They are now calling Carnel’s disappearance as suspicious.
  • Neither adult has been named by Tribal authorities. ( Info is posted below as tip)  A statement released early Saturday morning said investigators had a “person of interest” in mind, but did not identity that person. (I do believe that it will turn out that the tip was correct).

UPDATE:  Jaimee Chamberlain is Carnel’s mother.  Tribal spokesman Frank Cloutier said people were coming and going at the boy’s home when his mother noticed the child wasn’t where he should have been.

Jaimee has posted on Facebook that Anthony Bennett is her boyfriend. They have been together for seven months.  He was allegedly watching Carnel and cleaning the above ground pool and thought Carnel was in the yard.  When Jaimee came home she asked her boyfriend where Carnel was.   Bennett has allegedly stated he is no longer talking without a lawyer.

The Tribal Public Relations Director Frank Cloutier says that there is an ongoing search on Friday, June 22, for a missing four-year-old boy from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan who has been missing since June 21 around 9:30 p.m.

Carnel with longer hair

The boys name is Carnel Chamberlain and Cloutier says the circumstances surrounding his disappearance were under investigation.  Other reports said there was no foul play suspected.

The boy was wearing a dark shirt with “Angry Birds” on the front with dark blue or green shorts with green trim.  He is three feet tall with short dark hair and dark green/brown eyes. He was last seen near the pool and camping area near Toma Road in Chippewa Township and  1426 West Lynn St in Owosso MI., Friday June 22 2012 at 2:30PM ET. The police stated, “We need your help. Please check your yard, complex and vehicle.”

The Saginaw Chippewa land is between Lansing and Flint, Michigan.

If you have any information, please contact the Tribal Police at 989-775-4700 or the Owosso Police Dept. at 989-743-9111.

  1. This is such a sad story… I hope and pray for his mother, I just don't understand how people can hurt these little kids ( they are gifts from god)

  2. He was a beautiful little guy. I hope his mother is charged with something because there is no way in hell I'd let anyone who once “bruised” my child to set foot in my home again, much less watch my child. This is insane.
