On September 13, 2019, the police were called to a softball field in Smyrna, Delaware where a dog found a bone that was thought to be human.
During the authorities investigation, other remains were found located at Little Lass Fields near Duck Creek Parkway in Delaware, and they soon realized the remains belong to a child.
The police released a composite sketch in November 2019 of what the child looked like that circulated social media. They estimated she was between 2 and 5 years old.
On October 7, 2020, the Delaware police announced they have identified the child’s remains as 3-year-old Emma Cole.
According to Delaware Online, the “Smyrna police made an apparent “breakthrough” in a 13-month-old case involving the human remains of a young girl, and the names of the persons of interest have been released as the girl’s mother, 28-year-old Kristie Haas, and her husband, 38-year-old Brandon Haas, who were both arrested and charged in Pennsylvania,” Delaware Online reported.
The two, formerly of Smyrna, married in May 2017, according to Facebook posts. Indiana court records show Emma is Kristie’s daughter. When Emma was discovered, the couple was living in a home on North New Street, which is located about a mile away from Little Lass Fields. The couple was later evicted from their single-story house in October 2019, according to court records, stated Inside Edition. Records show Kristie Haas had a home remodeling business, “KBHAAS DESIGNS,” registered in Glen Mills, Delaware County, as of August 2020.
